Both La Jettee and Julien Donkey Boy approached cinematic space in completely different ways. La Jettee is made entirely of photograph stills and there was only one short moment where there was an actual video shot; the women's eyes blinked for several seconds while laid in bed. The set up of the stills told a complete story; the pictures changed in pace with each new scene or setting and it was also in pace with the narrator who describes the storyline. The film is in black and white, with a variety of tones and high contrast. The heartbeat when certain points got intense, was used effectively and wasn't used throughout the entire film, which made the sound affect strong. Compared to La Jettee, Julien Donkey Boy overall was nauseatingly harsh in both the colors and the plot (if any). Throughout the entire film the graininess of the film was intense and the color was harshly vibrant. There wasn't much sound affects as far as I could tell, the only sounds in there were the people talking and making weird sounds at random points. Unlike La Jetttee, the whole film was unbearably shaky and some shots were zoomed in to the point that only part of a headshot was shown and there was no narration, the whole film was completely random and chaotic.
Out of the two films, I liked La Jettee the most because there was a narration that I could follow (the narration came from mostly a psychological perspective which is what I liked the most about the story) and it was overall visually pleasing. Each shot showed the entire scene and did not cut anything out. I did like the short video clip because it added to the woman's restless movement. My most favorite part of the film was the heartbeat because it made the entire film that much more intense and creepy. I really disliked Julian Donkey Boy because I felt like I could get whatever was going on in five minutes, the film overall was too long. It had no narration that I could follow and there was not one settle scene in there, it was like a madhouse the entire film. Not only that, the colors were sickly bright, some of the shots left certain things out, the graininess and the camera shake was too much for me. All of those qualities together did not work well and turned into just one big headache for me.
