Thursday Night-Joan Laage: Movement Workshop

In this workshop we first worked with how certain movements and postures give off a specific mood and gesture.  Then we got into how materials were brought into the movements to add on a certain effect.  Like working with a stick to portray that you have an extended limb or facial feature and using a long Japanese material to reshape a human figure.  The music that was brought into these performances gave the movements a different feeling.  We worked with roses and low energy music, which gave off the feeling that the season was changing or death was coming.  What I took away from this workshop for my piece was how different speeds of certain movements give off different emotions and how to keep movements simple, yet impactful.  For my piece, since I have my hands tied behind my back, I'm already going to look like I'm having troubles walking and I'm going to be bent over a bit to have my hair fall over my face to give off a creepy and socially awkward feeling.  The music is going to be somewhat of a low energy to emphasize the slow and jerky movements.
