Faculty Artists' Talk

Bob Campbell's inspiration comes from finding accidental outcomes.  His favorite thing specifically that is often reflected in his work is the motif of nature taking over culture.  Earth sustains culture, but culture does not value sustainably.  As an artist, he wanted to capture and point out the horrific parts of what is considered beautiful.  Like with his "monkey boys", he used them to portray unnatural chemicals emerging from the earth.  He painted one of the monkey boys yellow to represent his coward act of trying to escape from culture.  He had another piece where the concept was about writing love letters to chromosomes and it appears as if it's not getting through because there's nothing to write about or say when your chromosomes are being fed with bits of plastic.  Even though most of his pieces are revolved around finding dangerous accidental outcomes; he wants to find positive outcomes where he can re-aqiaint himself with nature.
